The Construction of Meaning Workshop provides a forum for addressing developments in the
treatment of meaning in linguistic theory. It sponsors presentations of ongoing student and faculty work, lectures by
invited speakers, and an annual Semantics Fest, a one-day conference showcasing local research on semantics and
pragmatics. Over the years it has gained considerable momentum, with a growing number of students, faculty, and
visitors participating and a diversification of interests that has often attracted audiences from other Stanford
departments and several nearby institutions. During the academic years 1999/2000 - 2005/2006, the workshop was
sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Center and funded by a grant from the Mellon Foundation. We gratefully
acknowledge this support, which allowed an expansion of the workshop's activities, including the inauguration of a
Semantics Fest in March of every year.
