The Construction of Meaning workshop
has been in existence as an informal study group holding discussion meetings,
presentations of ongoing student and faculty work and guest lectures for
several years. Over the years it has gained considerable momentum,
with a growing number of students, faculty, and visitors participating
and a diversification of interests that has often attracted audiences from
other Stanford departments and several nearby institutions.
Since the academic year 1999/2000, the workshop has been sponsored by the
Stanford Humanities Center and funded by a grant from the Mellon
Foundation. We gratefully acknowledge their support, which has allowed an
expansion of the workshop's activities; it has allowed us to host several
events with invited speakers and to hold a day-long Semantics Fest in March of every year.
