The Construction of Meaning Workshop provides a forum for addressing developments in the treatment of meaning in linguistic theory. It sponsors presentations of ongoing student and faculty work, lectures by invited speakers, and an annual Semantics Fest, a one-day conference showcasing local research on semantics and pragmatics. Over the years it has gained considerable momentum, with a growing number of students, faculty, and visitors participating and a diversification of interests that has often attracted audiences from other Stanford departments and several nearby institutions. This academic year the Construction of Meaning Workshop is sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Center and made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Stanford University Dean of Research. The workshop also enjoyed the sponsorship of the Stanford Humanities Center from 1999/2000 - 2005/2006. We gratefully acknowledge this support, which allowed an expansion of the workshop's activities, including the inauguration of a Semantics Fest in March of every year.
