Subject Pool Lab TA job description

 

The appointment is for a quarterly Subject Pool Lab TAship with the workload spread over three quarters. (This represents a commitment of roughly 3-4 hours per week during the entire academic year, though the workload may vary from week to week and quarter to quarter.)

Pay: student will receive a supplemental stipend each quarter for taking on this position

Responsibilities at end of Spring quarter:

  • meet with current Subject Pool Lab TA and faculty supervisor to discuss the position, to discuss projects for the upcoming year, and to plan the transition between TAs

Responsibilities:

  • maintaining the subscription to and administration of the web-based experiment-scheduling program
  • lining up the instructors whose students will participate in the subject pool each quarter
  • providing experimenters, instructors, and subjects with information about and access to the experiment-scheduling program; ensuring experimenters have the proper qualifications (i.e. IRB approval, CITI certification)
  • giving occasional demos of the experiment-scheduling program to user groups
  • running several video films as the designated alternatives to experiments
  • maintain the subject pool pages on the department website
  • gather required information each quarter from those conducting experiments under the department's blanket experimental protocol
  • help the relevant faculty member with yearly submission to the IRB of the subject pool protocol
In addition, the student will help to design, evaluate, and modify the Subject Pool to better meet the needs of the Department in the future.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with using the subject pool
  • Meticulous organizational skills
  • ability to work effectively one-on-one with students and faculty
  • ability to work with the designated faculty supervisor and the Department manager
  • in residence for the entire academic year
