Beginning your year as the
Mentor TA
- Two weeks before the quarter begins, e-mail the participants in Linguistics
394, the TA Training Workshop (i.e., the second year PhD students in
the department) with list of candidate topics, a reminder to attend
the CTL orientation, and the place and time of the TA workshop meetings.
- Reserve room (typically the Chair's office or the Greenberg room) for meetings and talk
with Sharmila Mani (Administrative Associate: Finances) about budget.
This room should be reserved as soon as the workshop is scheduled in
the summer. If you are away in the summer, talk to Gretchen Lantz (Student
Services Coordinator) to see that she will reserve a room.
- Attend the CTL TA orientation with workshop participants the first
week of the Autumn quarter. Usually, the orientation takes place on
the Tuesday morning that is the day before Autumn quarter classes start.
- E-mail faculty, veteran linguistics TAs, and CTL staff once topics
are agreed upon. These e-mails are to let people you plan to have facilitate
discussions know when they should come to the workshop.
